While the Walsenburg Housing Authority is considered a "child government" of the City of Walsenburg by the State of Colorado, it is also a completely independent local government entity.
Municipal Housing Authorities are authorized and controlled by the Housing Authorities Law (CRS 29-4-201 et.seq.) They are governed by an independent elected Board of Commissioners, maintain their own finances, and operate separately from the City government.
